Guyana’s Commissioner of Police Leslie James this morning confirmed to media operatives that his organization is investigating former government Member of Parliament Charrandass Persaud.

Persaud is the MP who supported an opposition sponsored no confidence motion in the National Assembly against the A Partnership for National Unity/ Alliance Force Change APNU/AFC Coalition Government in December.

Persaud was at the time still a member of the government benches when he voted

It was during an invited comment following the ceremonial opening of the force Officers Conference that the commissioner was asked to comment on the investigation which he admitted is underway.

He however refused to get into details about the nature of the probe, who made the report, what report was made what exactly they are investigating and the rest of it.

The Top Cop was also asked if there is any indication that any serving member of the Guyana Police Force is also under investigation in relation to the Charrandass probe but he responded in the negative.

Commissioner Leslie James would not confirm or deny if the probe into Charrandass who is presently in Canada, is being investigated for treason, bribery or gold smuggling.

Persons close to the government have indicated that there is now evidence to suggest that Charrandass might have been bribed into voting with the Parliamentary Opposition against the government and that external forces facilitated the process.

Leslie James told the press when ask, that there has been no attempts to make contact with Charrandass, at least at this point.
