Diamond man found guilty of 2007 killing at White Water Landing

50-year-old Alvin Calder was on Tuesday found guilty by a 12-member jury for the offence of manslaughter over the unlawful killing of a man 14 years ago at White Water Landing, Mahdia, Region Eight.

Calder was on trial for the killing before Justice Gino Persaud at the High Court in Essequibo. The charge against him stated that onΒ April 12, 2007, he unlawfully killed Joseph Willy, called β€œJeff-man”.

Following the guilty verdict, Calder was remanded to prison. He will be sentenced on March 09, 2021. The case for the prosecution was presented by State Counsel Lisa Cave.

According to media reports, on the day in question, Willy chased after Calder and attacked him with a cutlass. Calder fired a shot at him before making good his escape. Calder was only arrested for the crime in 2016.
