Human Rights body proposes joint fund raising to bring forensic team

The Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) is trying to raise some US$40,000 to bring the Argentine Forensic Anthropology team to aid in the Henry cousins murder investigation. This comes as the Police seems to have met a dead end in its investigations and is offering a $3million reward for any information that can assist with its two month old investigation.

In a release, the GHRA said it has approached the Ministries of Home Affairs and Human Services “seeking their joint financial support to bring a team of Forensic Pathologists from Argentina,” to assist the Guyana Police Force resolve the West Coast Berbice murders. That proposal is yet to be acknowledged GHRA said. The Human Rights body is proposing “the Ministries fund 50% of the cost and the other 50% to be  fund-raised publicly,” as it is proposing to co-ordinate the latter along with Hughes, Fields & Stoby,  the law firm representing the families.

GHRA said that the amount requested is not significantly more expensive than the reward being offered. GHRA in its release reiterated that every effort must be made to solve the murders as said the murders have the potential to ” lie like an explosive device to be activated by those who traffic in racial insecurity when politically convenient”.

Joel and Isiah Henry were found murdered on September 7th, 2020 after they went missing the day before. Their spines were severed and bodies bore marks of violence. It was on the 9th September that another teen’s Haresh Singh was discovered murdered. These brutal murders rocked the Region 5 West Coast Berbice communities and the country as a whole. Several persons who were arrested have been released.
