Trio join wife of murdered West Berbice man in custody
The three persons who were reportedly hired by the wife of Mohamed Haniff to have him robbed and killed were arrested, and have since joined the alleged mastermind in custody, as the police continue their investigations into the murder of the 44-year-old taxi driver of Experiment, West Coast Berbice.
BIG Smith News Watch has been told that the three men are all from the community of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, and have since provided the police with useful information.
The arrested three are said to be the persons who drove to and from the scene of the crime, along with a security guard and a horse cart operator.
According to what detectives were told, four days ago, the brother-in-law of one of the suspects told him that they had a job to go on, and that a woman pawned her house to a man and they have a lot of money.
Investigators were told that the brother-in-law also knew of the financial status of the woman’s husband who recently returned from overseas, and the fact that he returned with a large set of money, and that it was in his house, since he was on home quarantine.
Armed with cutlasses and a Rambo knife, they invaded the home of the couple where they battered Mohamed Haniff as they demanded money and other items. The woman was not harmed during the ordeal, based on what this publication was told.
One of the suspects told the police that he was not part of the killing, and that he only drove the crew to the location. He said that he knew what they were going to do, but there was no discussion of killing the man.
He said that when they returned to the car, he was informed by one of the accomplices that they had to kill the man, and that they did not get anything, as he refused to hand over the money.
BIG Smith News Watch had first reported the development where the wife of the man was arrested in connection with the murder. Police sources have indicated that Mohamed Haniff did not give the woman access to his money after he returned overseas.
It was during the investigations into the matter that the police received information that the woman had pawned their matrimonial home to a gentleman from the community. It is unclear what the reason for pawning the house was, but after the time came for her to pay up in order to retain possession of the house, the woman could not find the money, and the person she pawned the house to, kept threatening her that they would move to seize the property.
