HOSPITALIZED: Police Constable Michael Harris

Police Constable 23688 Michael Harris who is attached to Regional Division 7 is now warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s High Dependency Unit with head injuries after he fell from an All-terrain vehicle (ATV) registered to the Guyana Police Force and was being driven by another rank.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that the incident took place on Saturday just after 17:00hrs on the Takatu Trail, Mazaruni as the constable and two others were on the ATV CJ 7015 heading to a report.

According to information, the ATV was being driven by a corporal at a ‘reasonable’ speed when he came upon a pothole along the trail and attempted to swerve from it, resulting in constable 23688 Harris being flung to the ground.

The constable received injuries about his body where he was picked up in a semi-unconscious state and taken to the Bartica Hospital. The rank was examined and by a doctor on duty and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after it was determined that he sustained head injuries.

This publication was told that the team of three were heading to a shooting which has occurred earlier that day at the Puruni Landing, Mazaruni in which 38-year-old Ayesha George, a vendor of Lindy Avenue, Nandy Park was reportedly shot by one Kevin Fields of Victoria Valley Linden.

In that incident, it was reported that both the suspect and victim are known to each other and as they worked at the same location. On the day in question, the woman said she was heading to a shop to purchase cigarettes when she heard a loud explosion followed by a burning sensation on to her left side buttocks.

She was taken to the hospital and based on the extent of her injuries doctors recommended that she be transferred to Georgetown for advanced treatment.

The two are not known to have any problems and police in a statement indicated that the man might have at the time ‘just discharge’ his firearm which caused the woman to sustain the injuries she did.

BIG Smith News Watch wishes the police constable a speedy recovery.
