DEAD: 21-Year-old Vanessa Benjamin

By Royan Abrams

The police in Berbice are investigating the murder of an Ithaca, West Coast Berbice woman who was murdered earlier this afternoon by her reputed husband.

BIG Smith News Watch has been able to confirm the identity of the dead woman as 21-year-old Vanessa Benjamin of Fransin Street, Ithaca, West Coast Berbice.

According to the information reaching this publication, the woman was attacked and knifed to death by the man who also attacked the woman’s mother as she attempted to go to her assistance.

Information coming out of Berbice suggests that the mother of two and the man recently separated but he returned home today just after 17:00hrs and an argument broke out between them.

It was during that argument that the man whose identity is not readily available, armed himself with the knife which he used to inflict the wounds on the woman by stabbing her about the body until she collapsed on the roadside.

One eyewitness related that the after hearing of the commotion, she visited the area and saw the woman lying on the roadway facedown while the suspect who attempted to take his own life failed in that bit was crying out for the self-inflicted injuries.

Benjamin was taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival while her mother and the suspect was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.
