Woman shot as mask bandits strike again in Berbice

HOSPITALIZED: Roshine Singh

A woman was shot to her arm on Thursday evening when two bandits invaded the home she shares with her husband at Port Mourant, the robbery became a failed one after the husband retaliated with a spade.

45 Year old Roshine Singh was at home with her 45-year-old husband Joel Benn at their lot 88 Free Yard Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice when the bandits pounced on them at approximately 20:30hrs last evening.

We were told that of the two men who were decked out in their masks as they carried out the robbery, one seems to have been speaking with an accent, according to the victims, they further stated that one was armed with a knife and the other a cutlass.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that Benn was in the shower at the time the men invaded while his wife was in a hammock in the lower flat of the two-story building.

It was Benn who related that when he stepped out of the shower and was putting on his clothes he noticed the men.

“One of them was about 5 feet 7 inches in height, stout built, fair in complexion and talking with an accent like he comes from foreign or something. The other one about the same height had on black clothes and was wearing face mask” Benn added

According to the victims, the bandit who has the cutlass demanded cash but he, Benn, said he managed to grab a spade that was in close proximity and dealt the perpetrator a blow to the head after which the bandit who was armed with the gunfire shots in the direction of Roshine Singh, hitting her in the arm.

After discharging the rounds, the bandits left the scene on the foot empty-handed. The police were called in and the injured woman escorted to the hospital where up to early this morning, Friday, she was being prepped for surgery.

Detectives were able to recover two live .32 rounds and one spent shell from the scene. The bandits have not yet been apprehended.
