Man kills gambling buddy with security firm gun

DEAD: Raymond Leitch

Police detectives have arrested 34 Ceyon David called ‘Tallman’ of 49 Haslington, East Coast Demerara after he used a firearm belonging to Platinum Security Company to shoot a man with whom he was having an argument with.

Dead is 28 years old Raymond Leitch a miner of 2022 Amelia’s Ward Linden. The shooting took place at Quartzstone Backdam in the Cuyuni at approximately 12:30hrs on Monday. David is the holder of a firearm precept for Platinum Security Company and carries a 9mm Taurus Pistol.

Police sources have indicated that the deceased and suspects operate two separate shops in the area (Quartzstone Backdam) and which are located several feet away from each other.

The reputed wife of the deceased told the police David and the Leitch along with two other men were gambling cards when the shooting took place. She recalled that during the game, an argument ensued between the deceased and suspect which resulted in a scuffle which was parted by the other gamblers, resulting in the men returning to their respective shops.

However, there continued to be an exchange of words between the two men and David became enraged and whipped out the firearm which he carries and shot Leitch to the chest. Leitch then summoned a chopper from Georgetown to ring him out of the area but by the time the chopper arrived, he was dead.

His remains were nevertheless flown to the Ogle Airport where it was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital while the police who were at the airport, arrested David and took possession of the firearm which he used to shoot Leitch.

The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
