Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed and a 20-year-old police constable were on Friday remanded to prison after being jointly charged with the unauthorised giving of electronic data under the Cybercrime Act.

Mohamed, 39, of Houston, Greater Georgetown, and Police Constable Ryan Greene, of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to them.

The charge, brought under the Cybercrime Act No. 16 of 2018, stems from an investigation into an alleged offence committed on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Greene was arrested on Monday, October 26, while Mohamed was arrested two days later, on Wednesday, October 28. Both men were subsequently charged on Friday.

Bail was refused, and the accused were remanded to prison.

The prosecution was represented by King’s Counsel Darshan Ramdhani and attorney-at-law Mr Madonna.

Mohamed was represented by attorneys-at-law Roysdale Forde and Siand Dhurjon, while Greene was represented by Dexter Todd and Darren Wade.

The matter was adjourned to November 24, 2026.
