WIN MP RESIGNS FROM PARLIAMENT AMID ALLEGATIONS OF A SEXUAL NATURE INVOLVING A MINOR

October 2 2026
Member of Parliament Dr. Andre Lewis of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party has officially resigned from the National Assembly following his arrest on Wednesday night amid severe allegations of a sexual nature involving an individual who was a minor at the time.
In a formal resignation letter dated October 2nd, 2026, and addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, MP, Lewis confirmed his immediate departure from Parliament.
Lewis stated that his decision comes in light of the ongoing police probe:
“I have taken this decision in light of allegations that have been made against me and the ongoing investigation into those allegations. Given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities attached to public office, I believe that resigning from the National Assembly is the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing.”
He maintained, however, that stepping down should not be viewed as an admission of wrongdoing:
“For clarity, my resignation should not be construed as an admission of wrongdoing or as a determination of guilt. I remain committed to due process and to allowing the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations.”
Lewis submitted his resignation under Article 156(1)(a) of the Constitution of Guyana and expressed thanks to the Guyanese public and the WIN party for the opportunity to serve.
