Cuban National killed at Land of Canaan shipyard

A 37-year-old Cuban national died following a stabbing incident at a shipyard at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, late Saturday night.

According to Police, the deceased, Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, was reportedly involved in an argument with a fellow 32-year-old Cuban national, who was also employed at the shipyard. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Guillen was allegedly stabbed in the chest.

Guillen collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters following the incident. Other workers at the shipyard intervened and restrained the alleged attacker.

Guillen was rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The 32-year-old suspect remains in custody as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation. A knife believed to have been used in the incident was also recovered.
