The Government of Guyana has signed a Mineral Agreement with Mako Mining Corp. and its wholly owned subsidiary, Stronghold Guyana Inc., paving the way for the development of the Eagle Mountain Gold Project.

The agreement was signed by the Government of Guyana, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), Mako Mining Corp. and Stronghold Guyana Inc., collectively referred to as the Company.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mako Mining has maintained a presence in Guyana for more than a decade and has established a longstanding relationship with the country’s mining sector.

The agreement establishes the legal, fiscal and operating framework under which the Eagle Mountain project will be developed.

Preparatory activities have already begun, with construction expected to commence by the third quarter of 2027. Gold production is currently projected to begin by the end of 2028, subject to the completion of all required regulatory and environmental approvals.

The Government said the project is expected to create opportunities for employment, training and skills development while increasing the participation of qualified Guyanese workers, contractors, suppliers and service providers.

The Mineral Agreement also includes commitments related to environmental stewardship, community development and social programmes, in keeping with the Government’s objective of ensuring that mineral development contributes to sustainable economic growth.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, the GGMC and other relevant agencies will continue working with Mako Mining to facilitate the responsible development of Eagle Mountain while ensuring compliance with Guyana’s laws and safeguarding the country’s environmental, social and economic interests.
