Cops nab bandit who fled after cashier snatched his gun

Police have arrested Alex Pickering, the man who allegedly fled from a Linden gas station after a female cashier turned the tables on him by grabbing his own firearm.
Pickering, 35, also known as “Small Man” and “Awo”, of Victory Valley, Wismar, was captured at about 1:30hrs on Wednesday at a boat landing in Wismar.
He is expected to be charged shortly.
Pickering is accused of entering Hinds Gas Station in Linden at about 21:15hrs on Friday, September 4, where he allegedly pointed a pistol at a female cashier and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash.
However, while attempting to collect additional money, Pickering reportedly placed the firearm on the counter.
The cashier allegedly seized the opportunity, grabbed the gun and pointed it at him, prompting Pickering to flee the premises.
The incident was captured on the gas station’s security cameras and subsequently formed part of the police investigation.
Pickering was reportedly released from prison approximately two weeks before the alleged robbery, following a conviction for a similar offence.
Police sources said his brushes with the law date back approximately a decade.
Investigations are continuing.
