Family grieves, questions lack of charges in death of young motorcyclist

The grieving family of 24-year-old Deen Rodriques says they have been left without answers months after his death in a road accident, claiming that the driver involved was never charged and that they have received no meaningful updates from the police.

Rodriques, of White Water, Region One, was riding his motorcycle along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway on May 25, 2026, when he was reportedly struck by a truck driven by a Cuban national.

He was rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to his family, the truck driver was detained at the Yarrowkabra Police Station for approximately 72 hours following the crash.

Relatives said they were assured that they would be kept informed as the matter progressed.

However, the family claims that months later, the driver has not been charged and no court matter has been filed.

They say they have also received no further updates, leaving them feeling as though Deen’s life and death have been forgotten.

For the family, the pain has been made even more unbearable by the condition of Deen’s mother, who is reportedly suffering from kidney failure.

His aunt Jaquline Williams said Deen was his mother’s only son and was also her kidney donor.

His tragic death has therefore left the already seriously ill woman without the son who was expected to help save her life.

The family says they are not only mourning a beloved son, nephew and family member, but are also struggling with the belief that they have been denied justice.

They are now appealing for answers and accountability over the circumstances surrounding Deen’s death and the handling of the matter since the fatal crash.
