Ferry services between Guyana and Suriname have resumed following the lifting of a sailing restriction placed on the M.V. Canawaima.

The vessel was re-inspected on Thursday, August 13, after which the restriction was removed, clearing the way for the continuation of the vital cross-border ferry service.

Canawaima Ferry Service Inc. (CFS) and Canawaima Management Company N.V. (CMC) said passenger and crew safety remains their top priority, while further technical follow-up will continue in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The operators thanked authorities and stakeholders in both countries for their cooperation during the period of the restriction, as well as personnel involved in the inspection process.

The resumption of the service is expected to bring relief to passengers and other users who rely on the Canawaima for travel between Guyana and Suriname.

CFS and CMC said they remain committed to maintaining a safe, reliable and sustainable ferry connection between the two countries.
