Fire destroys upper flat of South Ruimveldt home

A family of three has been left homeless after a fire destroyed the upper flat of their two-storey wooden and concrete home at Lot 172 Sunflower Circle, South Ruimveldt Park, on Thursday morning.
According to reports, one of the occupants said the fire started at about 8:30 a.m.
Witnesses said the homeowners attempted to save some of their belongings but were forced to retreat because of the thick smoke.
The owner estimates the losses to be in the millions of dollars.
The blaze completely destroyed the upper flat of the house, while the lower flat sustained extensive water damage during firefighting efforts.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing.
