Rupununi motorcyclist fined $110,000 over multiple traffic violations

A 30-year-old construction worker from St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, has been fined a total of $110,000 after pleading guilty to multiple traffic offences at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.

 

Roylee Williams appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in relation to offences committed on June 12 while driving a motorcycle bearing trade plate number JCA 3 along the St. Ignatius Public Road.

 

Williams pleaded guilty to driving without a licence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed legal limit.

 

For the offence of driving without a licence, he was fined $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment. He was also fined $25,000 or two weeks’ imprisonment for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

 

Additionally, Williams was fined $60,000 or six weeks’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to driving with a breath alcohol level above the legal limit.

 

The fines amount to a total of $110,000. Should he fail to pay, Williams faces a combined default sentence of nine weeks’ imprisonment.
