“Lashup” charged with murder, remanded to prison

Yanick Williams, called “Lashup” or “Gap,” a 22-year-old porter of Back Street, Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara, has been remanded to prison after being charged with murder in connection with the death of Mohammed Faizul Shaheed.

 

Williams, who was arrested on Monday, May 25, 2026, appeared before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court on Friday, May 29, 2026.

 

The murder charge, contrary to common law, was read to him, but he was not required to enter a plea.

 

He was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to June 15, 2026.
