On this solemn and significant occasion of Arrival Day, we extend heartfelt greetings to all Guyanese, especially to the descendants of our brothers and sisters who journeyed to these shores as indentured labourers. Their courage, resilience, and sacrifice helped to shape the foundation of our nation, and their legacy continues to live on in the rich cultural tapestry of Guyana.
Arrival Day is not only a moment of remembrance it is a call to reflection. It reminds us of a painful chapter in our history, when men and women endured hardship in pursuit of dignity and a better life.
Indentureship marked the end of centuries of slavery, yet it also ushered in new forms of struggle.
Today, as we commemorate this day, we do so with a collective sense of concern. Many Guyanese feel the weight of a callous, incompetent, and corrupt administration one that has failed to be accountable to the people. The stewardship of our nationโs oil wealth has been poor, resulting in a widening gap between the rich and the poor. Too many of our citizens continue to face the absence of basic amenities, while fundamental freedoms are being denied.
This is not the promise our foreparents laboured for.
Though the chains of physical bondage have long been broken, many Guyanese remain constrained by policies that perpetuate economic hardship and limit opportunity. In this sense, the struggle for true freedom continues.
The PNCR/APNU calls on all Guyanese across race, class, and creed to unite in a renewed national effort. Let us reject division and complacency. Let us confront mental slavery, demand accountability, and work together to secure economic justice and genuine freedom for every citizen.
As we honour the sacrifices of those who came before us, let us commit ourselves to building a Guyana where dignity, equality, and prosperity are not privileges for a few, but rights for all.
Happy Arrival Day, Guyana. Let us continue the struggle together.
