A 44-year-old businessman from Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, has been sentenced to imprisonment after pleading guilty to a charge of larceny of a horse.

Don Wright, also known as “Danny,” appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 20, 2026, where the charge was formally read to him.

The offence was instituted under Section 176 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The court applied the provisions of the Administration of Justice Act, following which Wright entered a guilty plea.

He was subsequently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with one year of the sentence suspended.
