Excavator mishap claims life of Soesdyke man

A tragic accident at Mango Landing on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, has claimed the life of a 50-year-old man.
The deceased has been identified as Balram Jhaman of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred along the Mabura Trail, where an articulated motor lorry was parked on the southern side of the roadway with an excavator loaded on its trailer.
According to initial information, Jhaman entered the excavator and attempted to move it off the trailer when the heavy equipment became unstable, capsized, and plunged into a nearby ditch.
He was trapped beneath the machine and sustained severe injuries.
Jhaman was subsequently transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Police say the the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being examined.
