In a dazzling display of speed, 400 metres specialist Arinze Chance electrified the crowd at the Bayrock Synthetic Facility’s grand opening on Saturday evening in Linden, clocking an impressive 46.49 seconds to establish a new track record.

While the victory thrilled him, Chance emphasized the importance of his tactical approach to the race.

“The idea is to pretty much execute the race as best as possible, I would almost say to perfection, so that was pretty much the intention going into this race; knowing that it’s a big crowd, new facility being commissioned,” he explained.

“I love the big stages, I love the bright lights so the mood was set for a good race, and I have been able to open up my season running one of my fastest times ever,” Chance added.

Following his success, Chance expressed his enjoyment of competing at the new Bayrock venue.

“The facility itself is great, that atmosphere was electric. The surface of the track, I think because it hasn’t been used a lot—probably laid a few years ago—definitely still has a lot of springiness in it, and I definitely utilized that to the best of my ability,” he remarked after his 400 metres triumph.

Chance is set to return to the track on February 14 at the Bayrock Facility, where he aims to further lower his own record.
