Jomel Kenny, a 23-year-old truck driver of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, has been slapped with additional charges in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2026, on the southern carriageway of the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge.

Kenny was the driver of motor lorry GAC 296, which was involved in the deadly crash. On Friday, January 30, 2026, he was initially charged with Unlicensed Driver, Breach of Insurance, and Faulty Packing of Load.

He appeared in court, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded to prison until February 4, 2026.

On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Kenny was further charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Failing to Have Proper Control of a Motor Vehicle, and Maintenance of a Motor Vehicle.

He subsequently reappeared before the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Magistrate Dylon Bess. Kenny was not required to plead to the indictable charge of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, but entered not guilty pleas to the remaining offences.

The court granted him bail in the sum of $2,150,000 GYD, and the case has been adjourned to Thursday, April 2, 2026, when the trial is expected to commence.
