Shane Morgan, also known as Delon Morgan or by the alias “Demon,” has been sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after serving 25 years for the killing of gold trader Deon Stoll.

The sentence was handed down by Justice Jacqueline Josiah-Graham at the High Court in Demerara.

Morgan, a 38-year-old graphic artist formerly of East La Penitence, Georgetown, was convicted in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred during a violent confrontation in Kitty, Georgetown, in October 2019.

The incident took place on October 14, 2019, outside Eldorado Trading on Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty. Stoll, who was 44 years old at the time, was shot in the abdomen during an armed encounter.

He was a licensed firearm holder, a father of two, and resided in Essequibo and Bel Air Park, Georgetown.

During the incident, Stoll’s driver, Clayton Powley, and the business’s security guard, Rory Deegs, were also injured.

Evidence presented at trial included CCTV footage that captured Morgan and other individuals arriving at the scene in a white Toyota 212 with their faces covered.

The footage showed an exchange of gunfire between the attackers and Stoll and his associates.

Police investigations revealed that prior to the shooting, Stoll and Powley had completed a cash transaction at another location before traveling to Eldorado Trading.

Upon reaching the business, two of the attackers exited the vehicle. One was armed with a knife and confronted Powley, while Morgan approached Stoll wielding a handgun.

A struggle ensued, during which Powley was shot in the hand as Stoll returned fire. The attackers subsequently fled the scene without successfully carrying out a robbery.

Stoll was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

A post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Nehaul Singh found that the gunshot caused extensive abdominal injuries, severed major blood vessels, and perforated the intestines, resulting in death from hemorrhage and shock.

Morgan was arrested on October 22, 2019, after police found him injured inside a vehicle on Cove and John Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

While at the Criminal Investigation Department, he admitted to planning and taking part in the attack, statements that aligned with the CCTV evidence.

The prosecution in the matter was led by attorneys Marisa Edwards, Joy Williams, and Darin Chan.
