Pensioner found at Victoria koker: PM inconclusive

April 17 2026
The cause of death of 73-year-old Carlyn Greaves of North Street, Sparendaam, whose body was discovered in a canal at Victoria, East Coast Demerara, remains undetermined following a post-mortem examination.
Authorities confirmed that the examination was unable to establish a cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition of the body.
Greaves’ remains were recovered on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, after an anonymous report led police to the Victoria Koker, where her body was found floating in the canal.
Investigators had noted that the body was in a severely decomposed condition at the time of discovery, which significantly hampered forensic analysis.
The pensioner’s body bore a heart-shaped tattoo on the right thigh, along with marks believed to be caused by aquatic activity. She was found clad in grey short pants and no top.
Police had processed the scene and transported the body to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead, before it was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for further examination.
