GDF Prepares for Glory at the Terrence Poole Intermediate Boxing Championships

October 16 2025
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Boxing Gym is fired up and ready to defend its title at the highly anticipated Terrence Poole National Intermediate Boxing Championships, set to take place from October 25 to 27.
Head Coach Eon Bancroft has full confidence in his team’s readiness, despite facing some initial logistical hurdles.
“It’s going quite fine! Training is ramping up,” Bancroft declared, as his fighters intensified their preparations. Although some boxers faced limitations earlier due to activities within the force, Bancroft assures fans that they are overcoming those challenges. “This week, training is set to get tougher as we gear up for the championships!”
Entering the tournament, the GDF gym stands tall as a dominant force in local amateur boxing, boasting titles in novice, intermediate, and open divisions. Bancroft, who has been part of numerous victorious campaigns with GDF, is determined to uphold the team’s winning tradition. “We are prepared and on schedule,” he stated confidently. “If we get everyone in and train properly, we’ll be in great shape. My expectation is clear: perform well and bring home the championship. We’re heading for another victory!”
This year’s championships hold extra significance as they honor the late Terrence Poole, the long-serving Technical Director of the Guyana Boxing Association. Poole, who sadly passed away in October 2024, was a towering figure in local boxing for over four decades, coaching and mentoring countless athletes, including many from the GDF gym. His legacy continues to inspire the boxing community.
With the tournament fast approaching, Bancroft and his team are laser-focused on fine-tuning their strategies and sharpening their conditioning, ensuring the GDF maintains its reputation as a powerhouse in the ring.
