West Berbice Woman Remanded for Murdering Sister

October 7 2025
55-Y-O Allison Walters, of Plantation Ross, West Coast Berbice, has been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of her sister, 72-year-old Barbara Crawford of Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Dead: Barbara Crawford
Walters appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Blairmont Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where she was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The alleged murder occurred on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Plantation Ross Village.
Prosecutor Sergeant Garfield Edwards informed the court that the case file is incomplete and that further legal advice is being sought.
As a result, Magistrate Matthias remanded Walters to prison until her next court appearance on November 7, 2025, when the case will be transferred to the Weldaad Magistrates’ Court.
Police in a statement said that on the day of the incident, the accused was reportedly shouting, prompting her brothers to break into the locked house, where they subdued her after she allegedly armed herself with a knife.
Crawford was found dead in a hallway chair. Walters, a patient at a Canje mental health clinic, was arrested and reportedly refused to speak during questioning.
Her daughter told police that Walters confessed over the phone, saying, “I just strangled Barbara and killed her.”
