–As Police Conclude Probe into Death of Delon Lawrence

The Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has completed its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 30-year-old Delon Lawrence of Lot 10 De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara.

Lawrence died while in police custody on March 15, 2025, shortly after being arrested in connection with an alleged stabbing incident aboard a Route 31 minibus. He was accused of stabbing a female passenger and was reportedly beaten by concerned citizens before being handed over to police.

Following his arrest, Lawrence was initially taken to the La Grange Police Station and later transferred to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station.

While in custody, he was attended to by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who subsequently pronounced him dead.

In the course of the investigation, one individual was arrested and questioned in relation to Lawrence’s death.

The completed case file is expected to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday, June 16, 2025, for legal advice as the matter progresses.
