Over 200 Solar Systems Distributed in Hosororo

May 6, 2025 – More than 200 households in Hosororo, Mabaruma, Region One, are now benefiting from enhanced access to renewable energy following the latest solar panel distribution under the Government of Guyana’s Hinterland Electrification Programme.
The distribution exercise, held over the weekend, was spearheaded by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, alongside Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley and Regional Executive Officer Mr. Sewchand. A representative of the Guyana Energy Agency was also present to support the initiative.
The intervention targets residents who were not beneficiaries during a previous distribution phase. While the region has existing access to electricity, the newly provided solar systems are expected to deliver more reliable and sustainable energy, especially crucial for daily household activities and educational advancement.
Among the recipients, Ms. Celeste Cedino expressed gratitude, highlighting the system’s potential to help her grandchildren access electronic devices for their studies. Another resident, Mr. Nigel Peters, lauded the government’s continued commitment to improving hinterland livelihoods.
Minister Croal reiterated the administration’s pledge to equitable development, assuring residents that the government will persist in delivering essential services across Guyana. In response to concerns raised during the engagement, he announced that a new water supply system is currently being developed for Hosororo to enhance water access. He also revealed plans to equip two local secondary schools with dedicated water systems to support a healthier and more efficient learning environment.
The solar distribution exercise is expected to continue in other communities over the next two days as the government advances its mission to build a more inclusive and sustainable Guyana.
