Female cop who stood against Deputy Commissioner’s bullying of women is denied promotion

Eva Harry, the Female Police Sergeant of Police who stood up against bullying and degrading comments made to her and her mother by Deputy Commissioner of Police Errol Watts, was overlooked for a promotion to the rank of Inspector.
A previous list of prospecting officers and ranks for promotion, featured Harry’s name, but when the final list of promotion was released on Wednesday, February 27, 2025, it was clear that Harry and many other ranks were booted from the list and overlooked for promotion.
In January, Deputy Commissioner of Police Errol Watts used his authority and position in the Guyana Police Force to summon the female sergeant to drop what she was doing and see him in his office. The female cop was racing to pick her sick mother up from home to seek urgent medical care.
After turning back, she was forced to meet with Watts but not in his office. Rather, she was taken to a heavily tinted car driven by Watts. As she got into the vehicle, she was whisked away against her will to a tribunal hearing which was set up to determine the fate of Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus.
Once at the tribunal, she told the panel what had occurred and she was excused from the hearing. Two days later, Watts barged into a training session at the Police Academy, ordering Hary out of the class and told her he was there to escort her to the tribunal.
The rank then began recording the ordeal in which Watts could be heard expressing disregard for the woman’s sick mother, stating “that is not his problem” and other degrading and unethical comments akin to someone with the organisation who holds the rank of senior officer, let alone, Deputy Commissioner of Police. The audio recording ended up making its way to social media and Watts was exposed for the cruel and compassionate approach to women and women’s issues within the Guyana Police Force.
The Police rank, who then expressed fear for her life, reached out to the media and provided an interview detailing what took place.
Based on court documents which were filed by Brutus, Police Sergeants Harry and Brummel were called into a meeting at which Watts was present and ordered to change the statements they had initially given to SOCU. Those initial statements did not implicate Brutus criminally. However, Walcott agreed to change his statement. For Harry and Brummell’s refusal, they were transferred and Brummell was placed before the court and interdicted from duty while Harry continues to be victimized.
Yesterday it was revealed that Lingard Walcott was promoted from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police. In a public comment on Facebook, Deputy Commissioner Watts said the promotion was well deserved as Walcott stood up against evils and persecution.
Many police officers have expressed surprise at some of the names which appeared on the senior police promotion list as well as some names which were not featured on the list.
Deputy Commissioner Errol Watts is the same police officer who was seen tumbling and rolling on the ground at the west end of the Demerara Harbor Bridge where he was fighting in his uniform with a civilian member of the public.
It was also Errol Watts who commissioned and named a toilet after himself while he was the Commander of Regional Police Division 3.
