CANU tumbles Brutus’s pregnant wife, 4yr old for drugs at CJIA

On Thursday, December 05, 2024, agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit tumbled up the suitcases of Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus’s wife who is six months pregnant along with his four-year-old son while being outgoing passengers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
After clearing immigration, the pregnant woman was approached by agents from Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit who informed her that they wished to search her and her son’s luggage for narcotics. The woman complied with the process which took roughly 35 minutes, based on what was communicated to this publication.
Earlier Thursday, Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty heard an application filed by Attorney-At-Law Eusi Anderson seeking the court’s permission to allow Adonika Aulder permission to leave the jurisdiction for a scheduled doctor’s appointment in the United States of America.
Having reviewed the contents of the application coupled with several stress-related complications during her pregnancy so far, the court ruled in favor of the attorney’s application on behalf of his client.
The court has previously ordered that Brutus and his wife lodge their passports as a condition of bail when they were charged and placed before the courts.
While there were some setbacks at the airport with immigration about Aulder leaving the jurisdiction, those were quickly cleared up when immigration was presented with the court jacket signed by the magistrate.
When Brutus, his wife, and two others appeared in court in October charged with financial-related crime, it was only Brutus and his wife’s passport that the SOCU prosecutor asked the court to have lodged as part of their bail conditions after his bid to have them denied bail failed.
Upon their arrival at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York late Thursday night, Adonika Aulder and her son were able to clear Customs and Border Patrol without hassle.
Contacted on Friday morning for a comment on the search, Director of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit James Singh told this publication no one is exempted from a search by CANU but assured that the search of Brutus’s wife and child was not sanctioned.
He further stated that a new team of officers worked at the airport on Thursday given intelligence that they had received, he later clarified that based on the intelligence, two persons were arrested at the airport last evening and a quantity of drugs were recovered.
