‘Little Robbery’ Sentenced to 10 Years for Manslaughter

Naresh Ally, also known as ‘Little Robbery,’ has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2018 death of 22-year-old Romeza Sukdeo, whose body was found near Hydronie Market Road in Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

The 28-year-old had initially been charged with murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Justice Peter Hugh of the Demerara High Court delivered the sentence after considering several
factors.

Ally’s sentence began with a starting point of 24 years, but the judge reduced it by eight years for his early guilty plea and another six years for time already served on remand, resulting in a 10-year prison term.

During his incarceration, Ally is required to complete alcohol and anger management programmes to support his rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The case dates back to November 11, 2018, when Sukdeo’s partially decomposed body was discovered under a tree by a security guard, who immediately alerted police.

A subsequent autopsy revealed that Sukdeo had died from strangulation and blunt force trauma.

The prosecution, led by Attorney Caressa Henry, presented the details of the case, while Ally’s defence was managed by Attorney Kean Trotman.

After Ally’s guilty plea, the court postponed sentencing to allow time for a probation report and victim impact statements.

Reports suggest she had been struggling with substance abuse for several years prior to her untimely death.
