An East Coast Demerara businessman is nursing a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. At the same time, two of three men were arrested following a robbery at his Better Hope, East Coast Demerara Business place on Monday night, October 22, 2024, just after 20:00hrs.

56 Year old Sheik Samsair of 23 Better Hope, East Coast Demerara was shot after he refused to comply with instructions from the three bandits who were walking him around the house to identify valuables and other loot.

Police sources have indicated that cash and jewelry were taken from the businessman, who also operates a hotel adjoining his home.

When the bandits pounced on the man he was in his business place, they held him at gunpoint and walked him to his house where they began demanding items when he refused, he was shot. They then escaped and the man was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

Within less than one hour of the crime, Sparendaam police received information on the suspects and proceeded to the Cummings Lodge area where, Winston Harris of 351 BB Eccles, age 35, and Dexter Simon of 54 Russel Street Charlestown, age 38, who were arrested for the crime.

A search was conducted on the men. A black haversack with a .32 revolver containing five matching rounds, two Samsung cellphones, and a silver toy gun.

“We are sorry,” the bandits told police constable Abrams who read them their rights after telling them of the offence they committed.

Meanwhile, the third suspect was observed and when chase was given after him, he dropped a .38 revolver and continued running. The weapon was picked up by the police along with two matching rounds and spent shells in the cylinder. All items were lodged and the investigation continues.
