September 27 2024 – Three individuals have been formally charged in connection with an assault that took place during the September 25th Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Royals at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The accused are Sereste Brittlebank, 28, from Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, who faces charges of “Assaulting a Peace Officer”; Keron Williams, 29; and Trevon Williams, 31, both from Annandale, East Coast Demerara, charged with “Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm.”

The defendants appeared in the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where they pleaded not guilty. Brittlebank was granted $80,000 bail, while Keron Williams and Trevon Williams were released on $20,000 and $60,000 bail, respectively.

The case is set for trial on October 3rd, 2024.

According to a police report, the incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has led to heightened security measures for future matches.

The altercation, reportedly fueled by alcohol, saw a spectator being attacked by several men while lying on the ground.

The victim was taken to the hospital, treated, and subsequently discharged.

Following the assault, the Guyana Police Force launched an investigation, leading to the arrest and charging of three men on Friday, September 27th, 2024.

In response to the incident, the Guyana Police Force has assured cricket fans that stringent security measures will be implemented for the remainder of the CPL matches in Guyana, including an increased presence of uniformed and plainclothes officers both inside and around the stadium.

The police emphasized that additional precautions will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
