Hicken urges unity during Top Command meeting

Hicken urges unity during Top Command meeting

Top Cop Clifton Hicken has called for unity among officers and ranks of the Guyana Police Force as he chaired a performance group meeting with members of his Executive Leadership Team, and Regional and Branch Commanders.

This is according to a statement from the Guyana Police Force issued on Friday night, September 06, 2024.

Commissioner Hicken based on the police statement emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism, reiterating the oath of office, and underscoring the need for unity within the organization.

“There should be no division among officers and ranks of the Guyana Police Force” the police statement quoted the Top Cop.

Over the last few months, the backbiting within the Guyana Police Force has been at an all-time high with the leakage of internal documents finding its way into the public domain.

Many of those leaked documents form part of files stored in offices that report directly or indirectly to the Police Administration and Operation Offices.

In conversations with officers and ranks of the Guyana Police Force, it was pointed out that many feel demotivated and demoralized due to stories appearing in the press that affect the organization they serve added to the lengthy wait for the much anticipated senior and junior promotions.

The morale of the Guyana Police Force and its ranks seems to have been plunged further into dismay after subject Minister Robeson Benn used a police function which was televised live, to suggest that police officers who own and wear jewelry are corrupt and can be bought.

That statement did not end well for the minister who was hauled over the coals by colleague cabinet ministers and other mutual friends.

President Irfaan Ali later issued a statement stating that he appreciates the hard work and dedication of members of the Joint Services.

Robeson Benn is known for often talking off-the-cuff, frequently leaving him with the messy end of the stick.
