CJIA Restores Runway Lights, Night Flights to Resume

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has successfully reinstated one circuit of its runway lights, allowing for the resumption of night flight operations.

A statement issued by the CJIA confirms that this development was communicated to airlines.

The airport’s maintenance team is actively working to restore the second circuit, though efforts are currently hampered by the ongoing arrival of flights that were redirected the previous day.

To date, the airport has accommodated ten flights, including a private aircraft, a cargo plane, and eight passenger flights.

The runway lighting system sustained damage last Sunday due to severe thunderstorms and lightning strikes.

Since then, the airport maintenance crew, in collaboration with GPL personnel, has been diligently replacing damaged runway cables and transformers.

Several airlines are set to resume night operations shortly.

CJIA extends its gratitude to the airlines and passengers for their patience and cooperation during the recent service disruptions.
