Kadackie Amsterdam Arrested for Allegedly Inciting Violence Against President and Government Officials

Kadackie Amsterdam, an activist and recording artist, was arrested today by the Guyana Police Force on charges of inciting violence against the President and other government officials.

According to a statement from the GPF, the arrest took place at approximately 11:00 AM at Amsterdam’s recording studio in Annandale, East Coast Demerara.

According to a police statement, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) took Amsterdam into custody after informing him of the allegations. Amsterdam faces three cybercrime charges, including using a computer system to transmit video messages that allegedly incite murder against the President and government officials, in violation of Section 18(1)(c) of the Cybercrime Act No. 16 of 2018.

He is also charged with disseminating false information via a computer system.

These alleged offences involve not only government figures but also a businessman and other individuals.

The Cybercrime Act stipulates severe penalties for these offences.

If convicted on indictment for inciting violence, Amsterdam could face up to five years in prison.

For disseminating false information, a summary conviction could result in a $5 million fine and three years in prison, while an indictment could lead to a $10 million fine and a five-year prison term.

Authorities have emphasized the gravity of these charges and can assure the public that investigations are ongoing.
