The Guyana Police Force (GPF) have made significant strides in the fight against illegal drug cultivation and trafficking, with major busts and seizures reported in Regional Divisions #10, #6, and #4 over the weekend.

According to statements issued by the GPF, in Regional Division #10, an Eradication Exercise conducted between 5:30 am and 12:30 pm on April 13, 2024, led to the discovery and destruction of two cannabis farms in the Kaiwa area of the Upper Berbice River.

The first farm, spanning approximately five acres, housed around 1,000 seedlings and a nursery containing approximately 35,000 seedlings.

Additionally, a large camp was found with approximately 34.019 kilograms of dried cannabis, valued at GC $30,617,100. Another farm, located about 100 feet away and spanning two acres, contained approximately 2,000 plants with an estimated weight of 2,200 kilograms and a street value of GC $338,800.

Authorities destroyed both farms, along with the nursery, and confiscated narcotics. No arrests were made.

In Regional Division #6, police conducted intelligence-led operations between 8:15 pm and 9:00 pm on the same day, resulting in a significant discovery.

In an abandoned yard adjacent to one of the premises searched, law enforcement found a light brown salt bag concealed under dry coconut tree branches.

The bag contained 39 parcels of suspected cannabis, totaling 43.57 lbs with an estimated street value of GC $17,786,703. Authorities seized the narcotics and a scale found at the scene. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

While Regional Division #4A, ranks acting on information intercepted a White Premio Motor Car at Ramp Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, around 22:00 hrs on April 13, 2024.

Upon searching the vehicle, Police discovered a brown salt bag containing 15 bulky parcels suspected to be cannabis, weighing 52 pounds.

The 22-year-old taxi driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was arrested and remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing.

These operations reflect the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal drug activities and ensure the safety and security of communities across Guyana.
