Lorry driver on $1M bail over causing woman’s death in Brickdam accident
Deodat Ramandat, 42, of Lot 35 Good Hope, Mahaica, made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates Courts on Tuesday. He was accused of causing death by dangerous driving.
On February 25 at Brickdam, Georgetown, it is alleged that he drove motor lorry GMM 9622 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 30-year-old Temeca Kerr.

This accused was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. The case was prosecuted by Police prosecutor Quincy Lacon while attorney Patrice Henry represented Ramandat.
In the end, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman ordered Ramandat to post bail in the sum of $1M.
The defendant’s case has been adjourned until May 22.
Kerr of Charlotte Street, Georgetown succumbed to her injuries on March 23 at a public Hospital.
According to Police Headquarters, the accident happened at around 4.30 am on February 25 and involved motor car, PWW 7944 owned and driven by Kerr with occupants, Shamar Vickerie, 27, of Lot 111 D’Urban Street, Georgetown; Sharese Gaskin, 28, of 387 Section ‘D’ Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, and Amanda Campbell, 42, of Lot 147 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
The other vehicle, motor lorry, GMM 9622, is owned and was driven by Ramandat.
Kerr was turning her vehicle from Brickdam onto Camp Street at the time when the sandtruck—which was apparently traveling at a high speed—suddenly crashed into her car, destroying it and sending it flying a long way. Both Kerr and Campbell suffered severe head injuries.
The two women were transported to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after the horrifying crash, where they were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However, Kerr passed away on March 23, while still hospitalised at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
