Taymouth Manor residents lament inconsiderate actions by neighbourhood workshop

A Taymouth Manor, Essequibo Coast resident is voicing her frustrations, claiming that her cries for help are being ignored by the relevant authorities.

Maywattie Ram and her family are alleging that the actions of a neighbouring workshop is posing serious health threats and attempts to have the situation controlled have fallen on deaf ears.

Ram said that she has taken her claims to the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hoping that some relief would be granted, but despite her efforts, she and her family have to endure the worst of the situation daily.

She is alleging that the paint fumes emanating from the workshop affects her breathing and overall health.

She added that at first, vehicles were sprayed inside the enclosure, but as of recent, they have been doing so outside, and with her home situated on the windward side, they are faced with the harsh smells.

Ram noted that the workshop is located on higher grounds, and would operate as a washbay as well, this allows large amounts of water to flow to the front of her yard causing a mess.

The woman lamented that her grandchildren can no longer visit her home as she does not want them exposed to the harmful fumes and the mess at the front of her yard.

Other residents have raised concerns about the large vehicles which are parked along the roadway, sometimes day and night, making the street non accessible most days.

Ram says she has lived in the area for over 30 years and the workshop was only recently established and is pleading with the relevant authorities to look into the matter as soon as possible.
