The Guyana Police Force’s Traffic Department Regional Divisions collectively made 253 cases for Friday, September 22.

This included 66 for speeding and four for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

The Traffic Department is reporting that unbiased efforts have been intensified with an aim to curb poor usage of the road by motorists who are engaged daily in empowerment sessions by traffic ranks countrywide.

Motorists are urged to slow down, don’t drink and drive, utilize designated drivers who are sober and capable, buckle up, and arrive alive.

The Traffic Department has extended its public awareness campaign beyond daylight to include bars and restaurants, where traffic ranks conduct public lectures and provide bar owners with telephone numbers for urgent communication reference the conduct of motorists.

Suggestion boxes are also in effect in addition to Regional Road Safety Councils and other partners who are engaged to bring about a positive shift in the mindset of motorists, all in an effort to ensure public safety on the roadways.

Broad based engagements with public transportation providers and drivers, religious bodies, among others are unfolding to have positive message delivery and impact.
