Sheriff Hospital a celebration in the path of progress.

President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali has cited the opening of the new Sheriff General Hospital as a celebration in the path of progress in building a new Guyana.

 

In his remarks at the opening ceremony held at Leonora in Region Three, President Ali congratulated the Ahmad family (Sheriff Group of Companies) and noted that the establishment of the facility is that of a celebration of confidence for the private sector.

 

He said that the government is intent on delivering better services in the sectors of healthcare, education, housing, legislation etc, in an effort to benefit all of Guyana.

 

The Head of State added that the system is not designed for political opportunism, but rather for the people of the country, as the intent is to deliver prosperity to every citizen.

 

He stated that the region is emerging as hot bed for development and transformation as the result of a geographic proximity of circumstance through which Guyana is evolving with the government’s numerous initiatives in modernizing infrastructure and landscape.

 

President Ali highlighted that importance is being placed on modernizing business architecture to advance Guyana for tourism and eco-tourism, as the aim is to be the best in the region.

He said that in order for the visions articulated by the government to become reality, the requirement of human capacity is vital.

 

The President acknowledged Guyana’s partnership with Cuba for the education and training thousands of doctors and nurses and expressed gratitude for a continued partnership.

 

He stated that the goal is to train as many healthcare professionals, and for persons pursuing interests in the field, to have their education fully funded by the government.

 

He noted that doctors and other medical practitioners are pursuing further specialized training at top institutions in the US, the UK etc, adding that this will ensure Guyana is equipped with the best of the medical workforce

 

He cited the importance of accessibility reliability, service and efficiency as key components in order to deliver quality in every sector.

 

The President stated that the government will invest in the best equipment for healthcare but acknowledged the need for services to be pleasantly delivered noting that a comprehensive and holistic approach to development will see Guyana standing out.

 

He added that the billions expended by the government and private sector in the region will see the completion of projects such as new banks, housing developments malls etc.

 

President Ali reiterated the need for development in every region, noting that it is not party centered development, but rather people centered as it puts the need of citizens at the focus point of each developmental project.

 

He indicated the need for proper healthcare investment, resources and leadership in the event of another pandemic noting that never again must Guyana, a developing nation, find itself in a failed system.

 

The President remarked that Region Three is a gateway to a massive tourism project being done in Essequibo River, as such, there is an accelerated need to meet the developmental demands of region.

 

The Head of State further specified the need for better security architecture in an effort to bring about change for the region and the country, adding that investments will be made in technology aided security systems to build a safe society.
