President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali has lauded the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on their initiative of championing social issues in the bid to strengthen partnerships.

Speaking at the opening of the annual three-day Police Officer’s Conference at Eve Leary today, President Ali has acknowledged the force’s outstanding efforts at targeting to strengthen relations by working along with every section of the Guyanese population.

The Head-of-State noted that policing is not about walking around with guns and a displeased face while enforcing fear- but rather having an approachable demeanor, presenting trust, compassion and approachability while still maintaining the aspect of portraying sternness and respect for the law, while leading by example.

He added that over the past year, officers and ranks who have been actively involved in cleaning exercises, painting of roadways, building houses, delivering hampers, walking and engaging in community outreaches while offering assistance out of selflessness, is most admirable.

President Ali reminded the GPF that they are officers leading other ranks as well as representing the force, as such, it is pertinent to present an environment which is secure, comfortable and moreso one that offers a higher standard of living, while adding that the men and women of the force are his foremost ambassadors to the ‘One Guyana’ train.

The Annual three-day Police Officers’ Conference has been officially opened as of today, from April 27-29, 2023 under the theme “Improve Partnership, Human Development and Accountability to Enhance Service Delivery”.
