A text message from his lover lured Constable Quincy Lewis to his death, and those who planned his murder had already dug his grave.

Police said that Lewis received a text message from “the female prime suspect” to meet him at Greenfield Park, East Bank Demerara.

On his arrival, he was shot by “the male prime suspect”.

Constable Lewis was then bound with plastic cables, and a black plastic bag, secured with duct tape, placed over his head.

The body was then placed in a vehicle and transported to the Madewini, Soesdyke/Linden location, where his remains were found on Wednesday, April 19.

“One of the suspects told investigators that his grave had already been dug prior to their arrival,” an official said.

Responding to one media report, an official said that “at no time whatsoever did any of the two suspects admit that they were paid gunmen.

Contrary to what was reported, the person who allegedly shot the policeman is still on the run.”

Police have issued a wanted bulletin for a husband and wife in connection with Lewis’ murder.

The bulletin identified the suspects as Thakurdal Samaroo, 56, and Naqeeba Zahid Zafarali.

Their last known address is Lot 7 Ogle Front Road, East Coast Demerara.

The bulletin indicated that they were wanted for a murder which occurred on June 19, 2020 at the East Bank of Demerara. This is the same day on which Constable Lewis was last seen alive.

The husband and wife are said to be overseas and Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said police are seeking to have them extradited. Constable Lewis is believed t have been slain over a romantic relationship with a married woman.

Lewis’ remains were found after two suspects led ranks from the Force’s Major Crimes and Cold Case Units to the area off the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

He was seconded to the Agricola police station, was last seen alive by relatives around 5.00 p.m. on June 19, 2020, after leaving the family’s La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara home.
