UPDATE: Constables under close arrest as Detective Corporal/ civilian killed

Two police constables who are attached to the Mahaicony Police Station in Regional Division 5 have been placed under close arrest in connection with the shooting deaths of Detective Police Corporal Dwayne McPherson, 31 years old and civilian Kishan Budburgh, 20 years old on New Year’s Morning at Grove Huntley Mahaicony.
In new information reaching this publication, we were told that the shooting occurred just around 00:30 hrs Sunday morning.
25 Year Old Chanderpaul Tuldos had earlier reported to the police that he was stabbed by a group of men while imbibing at a drinking spot in Mahaicony.
When the police arrived, they arrested two persons including an 18 year old and a 70 year old while Chanderpaul Tuldos was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital for treatment and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The incident started with a telephone call to the Operations Room where a caller reported the stabbing incident.
Corporal McPherson and his team were out patrolling at the time and responded to the report and it was there they made contact with the 18 and 70 year olds who were arrested and the injured man who they took to the hospital.
Shortly after, they received information that other suspects involved in the stabbing were at a house, the police then moved to that location. Corporal McPherson and two constables, namely James and Summerset who were all armed, responded.
Once at the location, they entered a house where contact was made with two juveniles in the upper-flat. They were searched and nothing unlawful was found based on our information. In the lower flat, the police found Budburgh sleeping. He was the suspect they were there to arrest.
Corporal McPherson woke him up, told him of the offence and proceeded to escort him out the building and yard but he resisted and started fighting with the policeman.
Police Constable James reportedly stated that as the suspect kept fighting with Corporal McPherson, he, James discharged a ‘few’ rounds in their direction but saw that they were still scuffling but could not say if at the time they were injured.
The constable reportedly related that he and constable Summerset went to the vehicle to get back up as they saw two unidentified males descending the stairs of the house and cursing that they [the police] cannot do anybody anything. Constable James said one of the men had a firearm in his hands.
It was explained that when the ranks returned to the house, Constable Summerset found his weapon under the house (as McPherson l had earlier took it away from him).
He also indicated that upon their return they found McPherson motionless on the ground and the suspect, Kishan Budburgh also lying motionless a short distance away.
McPherson seems to have suffered two gunshot wounds to the right side neck while Kishan Budburgh appears to have been struck some four times.
The hands of both policemen were swabbed for gunpowder residue while the firearms have been lodged
