Automobile Expo added to November's Race of Champions

On Sunday afternoon at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Guyana Motor Racing Sports Club (GMRSC) and Impressions Inc. Launched Guyana Automotive Expo (GAX 22) and Ignite Race of Champions.

Ignite Race of Champions will be held on November 12 and 13. GAX 22 will be the value added to the event which is slated for the South Dakota Circuit at Timehri, both events will be held simultaneously.

In brief remarks, former President of the GMRSC Kit Nascimento told the gathering that the races started a long time ago with bikers heading up to the No.63 Beach to race.

Nascimento said the races planned for November will see full-blown racing which is a welcomed return to real circuit racing as he likened racing on short tracks to a Mickey Mouse.

Mahendra Bhoodoo, President of the GMRSC in addressing the gathering said over the last few years, sports activities have increased.

At the Ignite Race of Champions in November, it is expected to be larger than in previous years.

The races will maintain the tradition of attracting regional and international competitors.

This year’s event will see a Mitsubishi Motor going up for grabs as the gate price.

Sports Minister Charles Ramson who delivered the feature address offered the government’s support and continued support for the November event.

Ramson said while motor racing in Guyana may be the largest spectated event, it is not the sport that had a large participation percentage and that needs to be addressed by the GMRSC’s management.

Ramson called for a change in the mindset of how Guyana engages with the world. A restricted mindset causes people to compare the support given to other sectors as it affects the advancement of the respective industries.
