Specialized health care for Berbicians after Stabroek Rotary outreach

Several persons from Upper Corentyne, Region 6 have been referred to various health services facilities where they will be given specialized health treatment.

The referrals were made following an outreach to Skeldon on Thursday by the Rotary of Stabroek which traveled to that part of the country and saw persons from both Skeldon and several other surrounding communities.

According to a statement from the Stabroek Rotary, over three hundred persons were seen by medical practitioners.

Blood pressure, blood glucose, blood grouping, healthcare for the elderly, HIV testing, VIA testing, Eye Care, COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots, chronic disease with medical advice from physicians, ultrasound, dental, audiology, blood donation, BMI/weight and nutrition counseling, physiotherapy, and prescription medication delivery were among the services offered during the outreach.

“Apart from prescriptions and medication dispensed, referrals were made to Ophthalmology and other specialized health facilities. Rotary Club of Stabroek intends to work with partners in supporting persons who are in dire need of follow-up services” A statement from the Rotary Club of Stabroek noted.

The Rotary Club of Corriverton was a key partner in all that was done as they provided the logistics on the ground to accommodate the team from Georgetown.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Services in Region 6, and several local and corporate businesses also facilitated the holding of the much-needed event.

The event was also celebrated in conjunction with the Skeldon Annual Health Centre Day where several donations were made by the Health Centre to the community.

According to the Rotary Club of Stabroek, the outreach to Berbice was done with the main aim of helping residents take responsibility for the preservation of their health.
