Two indigenous communities in Region eight (Potaro- Siparuni) recently received new tractors, brush cutters and household cash grants during a visit to the region by Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat and Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai.

The visit was in keeping with a promise made at the recently concluded National Toshaos Council (NTC).

The Minsters engaged with the residents of Campbelltown and Princeville and also met with the residents of Mahdia. Discussions were focused on the development of these villages as it pertains to the Government’s commitment towards the development of hinterland and riverain communities with focus in major areas such a food security, development of the villages’ human resources, women empowerment, etc. The Ministers also listened to the concerns raised by the members of these communities and provided assistance and solutions. These meetings served as follow up interactions directly with the villagers of the Amerindian Communities as promised during NTC 2022 by President Irfaan Ali. The Ministers reiterated the President’s promise, no village will be left behind.

The team to the region also included Mr. Ryan Toolsiram, Permanent Secretary (Ag) of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Mr. Vishal Ambedkar, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Newell Dennison, Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, Mr. Tasreef Khan, Deputy Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission among other senior members of the Ministries.
