A former member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), who is accused of stabbing his girlfriend seven times was on Thursday charged with attempted murder.

Twenty-six-year-old James Rodwell Cadogan, known as “Roddie” of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 5, 2022, at Paradise, ECD, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Zenida April, 24, a soldier.

He was remanded to prison until September 19, 2022.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the couple who lived together and shared a daughter had a misunderstanding.

The court heard it was then that Cadogan threatened April with a knife causing her to go and live with her mother.

The following day, April along with her mother and other relatives went to Cadogan’s home to retrieve her belongings.

While the woman was packing her bags, Cadogan began stabbing her. Her mother upon hearing her scream went to the bedroom and in the process, she too was injured.

Cadogan then made good his escape. The injured woman was taken to the hospital where she is still a patient.

The matter was reported to the Police and Cadogan, who later surrendered, was arrested and charged.
