Police issues wanted bulletin for former S.O.C.U Head

The police issued a wanted bulletin for former head of the Special Organised Crime Unit Sydney James on Wednesday morning.

James is wanted in connection with for questioning in relation to a series of reports of obtaining money by false pretence, the police said in the release.

“Anyone with information about that may lead to the arrest of Sydney James is asked to contact the Special Organised Crime Unit,” the bulletin reads.

James is a former Guyana Defence Force Rank who headed the G2 Branch of the GDF. This branch is tasked with Intelligence gathering. He was seconded to the Guyana Police Force under the Donald Ramotar administration.

James was the focus of an audit and police investigation as earlier as 2019 as then Commissioner of Police Leslie James signaled the Force’s intention to replace James as head of S.O.C.U.
